Mercuri
investing at the intersection of media, entertainment & AI
Our Thesis
Mercuri is an early-stage venture capital fund leading pre-seed and seed funding rounds for UK media technology companies. Founded in Kings Cross, London in 2017, we back outstanding founders building at the intersection of media, entertainment and AI — from generative AI, agentic AI and voice AI to creator economy platforms, gaming, XR, next-generation advertising and AI inference compute.
Our investments includes Faculty AI, Hugging Face, Fluidstack, Signal AI, Resemble AI, Kickstarter, Mozart AI and over 60 companies across the full content and data value chain. We take an engaged approach — often taking board seats and working actively alongside founders post-investment.
If you are building a pre-seed or seed stage media technology company in the UK, we want to hear from you. Pitch to us at pitch@mercuri.vc
STRATEGY
The Fund
Mercuri was founded in 2017 by Alan Hudson in Kings Cross, London — one of Europe's leading technology and innovation hubs. Originally established as GMG Ventures, the firm was anchored by The Scott Trust, owner of the Guardian Media Group, as its cornerstone limited partner.
Our first fund of £42m backed over 30 media technology companies at pre-seed and seed stage across the UK. In May 2023 we launched our second fund of £50m, with the British Business Bank as cornerstone investor alongside The Scott Trust and a group of blue chip institutions, strategics and angels.
Mercuri is a certified B Corp, a co-founder of VentureESG and a signatory of the Investing in Women Code. We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
We aim to be a supportive, trusted and engaged investor — often taking board seats and working actively alongside founders from pre-seed through to exit.
Beyond capital, we help with hiring, follow-on fundraising and strategic introductions across our global network of VCs, strategics and media industry leaders.
Mercuri lives by its values: integrity, equality, courage, passionate curiosity and responsible citizenship.
Mercuri takes its name from the Roman god of commerce and communication — the original connector of people, ideas and markets. We back the founders building that infrastructure for the digital age.
